The Americans #902
Officer Harry W. Goodwin
Light Dragoon Trooper, 1776

The 2nd Regiment of Sheldon's Horse, traces its
lineage to the New York Campaign of 1776 under
the Colonel-Commandment, Elisha Sheldon.
First organized as the 5th Regiment of Connecticut
Light Horse Militia, it was the first light dragoon
regiment to be commissioned and raised as
a Continental unit. Trooper Goodwin, suffered
the same bitter cold winds with General
George Washington as he was also there at
the crossing of the Delaware River to surprise
the British troops. Horses and men were both
transported in boats in that ice-crusted river.
The 2nd Regiment participated in action at
Trenton, Princeton, Saratoga, Germantown, Monmouth
and were present at Yorktown. All officers and men
were discharged in November of 1783.
