The Americans #917
Corporal Dick Perry
1st Virginia Cavalry, 1864

Corporal Perry was exhausted after keeping up with
Col. Fitzhugh and Gen. J.E.B. Stuart on his long march
around McClellans army of the Potomac.
Perry had mustered into the 1st Virginia when the
call to arms echoed throughout the Virginia countryside.
Like most of his fellow patriots, Perry brought his own mount.
By now he had almost a year of campaigning under his belt
and new corporal stripes on his sleeves. Though the year
held many long campaigns and their share of both
victory and defeats, Corporal Perry marches proudly
down the long bitter road to Appomattox.
