The Americans #918
Midshipman, U.S. Navy, 1864

Midshipman Munne snapped the spyglass closed.
With dawn approaching even the June air had a chill to it,
and there was nothing to see along the French coast anyway.
The U.S.S. KEARSARGE had been waiting some five days
outside the mouth of Cherbourg Harbor, for the
C.S.S. ALABAMA to emerge. Midshipman Munne had
overheard the Captain say he expected the ALABAMA to
come out this Sunday. If that were so, tomorrow,
Sunday, June 19, 1864, may well be a day the
young midshipman would tell his grandchildren about.
