The Americans #931 Private Philip O. Stearns
5th N.Y Zouvres, 1861
Smiling as he leaned on his musket after the parade,
Philip thought of the looks on their faces when he
turned down a commission in the newly formed and
colorful 5th N.Y. Zouaves. The unit, put together
by its commander Abram Duryée, was destined to be one
of the best in the War. The commission could wait;
Philip must prove himself in the ranks first.
Glory would come.
